The Uniqueness of Christianity ,

by Bro. Julius Adewumi.

Christianity is uniquely different from all other religions for the following reasons:

Other religions point to a Supreme Deity who must be worshipped and men are

given codes of conduct on how to please or appease this Deity.

But Jesus Christ portrayed himself as this Supreme Deity, incarnated in a human flesh,

calling men to himself.

In religion, men are trying to reach out to God, whereas in Christianity, God is trying

to reach out to men: "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will

give you rest". ( Mat. 11:28 ).

You may say, what a deal! why are men not grabbing Christianity? The answer is revealed in the words of Jesus himself: "that light is come into the world, and men loveth darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God." (Jn.3:19-20).

Some hateth Jesus out of jealousy. Imagine in a dark night where individual people has

a little candle light to see in the street. There comes a man with a huge fluorescent lamp and he invites all to come see with his lamp, and forget the candles. Some will come, while others who are proud will still say "No thanks anyway." Think of an open air party. Haven't you seen some ladies or even men who are so shy or ashamed of how they look and how they dress, and so will only sit in a corner where there is not so much light at that party? "Lest their ugly dress be exposed by the light!" That is what it means. Those who are already doing righteously will come to a true light so as to be praised, and to learn more if they are not proud.

Proof that Heaven sent him

If Jesus is not God, then heaven lied to mankind, because a voice spoke from heaven when

he was being baptized in the water that "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased". (Mat. 3:17). Never before so recorded, nor ever since. Again, on the mountain

before Peter, James, and John, a cloud covered the apostles, and a voice came from the cloud which said, "this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him". (Mat.17:5). Again, close to the time Jesus would be crucified, he was surrounded by a crowd, and he spoke "Father, glorify thy name". Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. Jesus answered and said, "This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes." (Jn.12:28-30).

In all these three instances, heaven bore witness that Jesus Christ came from heaven. To solidify the claim that he came from heaven, he went back to heaven before witnesses of about 120 people in the daytime. It was not like those mythologies of idol worshippers, which were never witnessed, when they tell tales of a supposed deity came from the sky, whereby some worship the sun, the moon, jupiter, and the stars in ancient religions. They might tell stories which was never witnessed. But Jesus Christ came as a man and lived in history and died and rose again and eat and drink with the disciples, and went up into the sky before them all. The calendar of dates was changed after him in history: we are now 1996 years after Christ.

If he is not God , then heaven lied, because as he was ascending up to heaven before the disciples, two angels appeared and spake to the disciples, and said: "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." (Acts. 1:11).

Son of God?

You may say, "why do you call Jesus God when people say he is Son of God?" Thank you for asking. When he was on earth, as a human being, he could only be presented as the Son of God, because that is how far up we human beings can come, in walking with God. Jesus came to demonstrate to mankind, what we can become if we come back to God and walk to please God. "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."(Jn.1:12). Really, in him dwelleth the fulness of the Godhead bodily. That is why he could not have a father on earth. Human spirit came into the world through the testis of our fathers, while the egg in the women is the body we put on as human beings. But the Spirit of Jesus came from the heavenly throne and put on a flesh in the prepared egg in the woman. The Jews had difficulty accepting him as God-sent, how then could he reveal whom he really is to them. But in the last hours, in the upper room, when the disciples asked him closely, when Philip said unto him "Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us", Jesus said unto him: "Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, 'show us the Father?' Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?" (Jn.14:8-10).

Go, Read it yourself! Jesus portrayed himself to be God! If heaven bore witness three times in a row, even after he went back to heaven, by those two angels, you owe him your life to follow him.

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:12).
